2025 Candidates Corner
Welcome to Candidates Corner – District 57 Elections
In Toastmasters, our program year runs from July 1 through June 30. As we approach the end of the year, May is a time of transition and leadership renewal. At the club level, each club independently elects a new slate of officers. At the district level, we come together to elect our new leadership team.
On May 16, District 57 voting members will elect our incoming District Director, Program Quality Director, Club Growth Director, and a Division Director for each Division.
Below, you’ll find short bios and headshots of each candidate to help you get to know the individuals running for these important leadership roles. Each candidate will also connect with voting members by sending out two campaign emails and delivering a two-minute speech during our District 57 Showcase on May 15.
Take a few moments to explore the Candidates Corner and learn more about the leaders who are stepping up to serve.
All are welcome at the Business Meeting on May 16 when we’ll vote in Officers and Vote for Realignment. However, only those eligible to vote can do so. We will need a quorum of Presidents and VPE’s. Please register to attend and to vote. All those eligible to vote will receive a packet next Friday. Please look for it in your inbox.
District Director
Linda Patten
The District Director requires both leadership experience and perspective.
Leadership — I have been on leadership every year since I joined Toastmasters moving from Club (President’s Distinguished) to Area/Division (Select Distinguished) to TRIO and its support (Toastmaster of the Year).
Perspective requires a mix of both vision and opportunity. Strong clubs are the centerpiece of success.
Goals are focused on success and encourage clubs and members.
Training focuses on what we want and how to achieve it.
I believe I have the working experience and broad perspective to lead Our District 57 through the coming challenges to even greater success.
Lindy Sinclair
Leadership takes experience, compassion, and responsiveness. With 35 years of Toastmasters experience, I will bring these qualities to serve as your incoming District 57 Director. I have held roles including District Treasurer, Division Director, Area Director, Club Excellence Chair, Pathways Chair, Open House Chair, and Pathways Ambassador/Guide.
I founded my home club in 2002, which has earned President’s Distinguished for 23 consecutive years. I have successfully run my own business since 1976, served as Board President and spiritual leader of my worship community, and am Mensa’s East Bay Coordinator. I am counting on your vote now — so you’ll have a District Director you can count on.
Program Quality Director
Jeffrey Young
Jeff Young is currently the District 57 Club Growth Director, where he’s been challenging clubs to be bigger, better, and put on more Open House Events.
He’s a writer, inspirational speaker, improv and workshop enthusiast, was the I-33 Area Director in 2019-2020 (earning an OATM), Division A Director in 2023-2024 (earning District Director of the Year), and has been a Toastmaster since 2010.
Club Growth Director
Dennis Dawson
Dennis Dawson is a writer and educator from Silicon Valley, CA. He is past district champion in the Humorous, Tall Tales, and Evaluation contests. Dennis recently completed his 3rd Distinguished Toastmaster award. He volunteers as a drawing teacher at local elementary schools and annually portrays Santa Claus for San Jose Christmas in the Park.
While Dennis has been active in districts 4, 39, 57, and 101 for 18 years, he’d have more impact as Club Growth Director and as a Region Advisor. For the latter he needs more experience. Your vote for Club Growth Director will let him serve District 57, while preparing him for a higher-level role.
