Speech Contests
Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year, thousands of Toastmasters compete in the Humorous, Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics, Online, and International speech contests. Competition begins with club contests, and winners continue competing through the Area, Division, and District levels. Winners of the District level International Speech Contest proceed to the quarterfinal level. Following quarterfinals, winners advance to the semifinals for a chance to take part in the World Championship of Public Speaking.
International
Contestants present a five- to seven-minute speech on any subject they choose. All districts must conduct this contest.
Humorous
Contestants present a humorous speech that must be thematic in nature (opening, body, and close), not a monologue (series of one-liners).
Evaluation
Contestants observe a five-to seven-minute test speech and then present a two-to three-minute evaluation of the test speech.
Tall Tales
Contestants present a speech on a topic that is highly exaggerated and improbable in theme or plot.
Virtual
Contestants present a five- to seven-minute speech on any subject they choose while participating live and online from physically distant locations.
Table Topics
The topic of this impromptu speech is the same for all contestants who only learn about it when they are introduced by the contest chair.

Yoodli: Your Artificial Intelligence Partner
In December 2022, Toastmasters International partnered with Yoodli, an AI-powered speech coach, to provide members with almost instantaneous speech feedback. The Yoodli platform complements the Toastmasters education experience by offering insights into how members can improve speeches they record on the platform. Using Yoodli’s analytics, members can see how much eye contact they made while speaking, how many filler words (such as “ah” and “um”) they used, if their speaking pace was too fast or too slow, and even if any words could be replaced with more inclusive language. These data points, along with others, empower members to polish their speeches before presenting them to a human audience for feedback.
Club Management
Club Goals
Club officers are asked to work together as a team, and perhaps one of the most important activities of a club’s executive team is to set goals for the club. From defining vision, mission and value statements to creating a Club Success Plan, to achieving Distinguished Club status, there are several activities involved in making your club successful.
Club Promotion
The overall health of a club heavily relies on the number of active members. A larger membership typically leads to more dynamic and engaging meetings, which enhances satisfaction among members. Therefore, attracting new members is a crucial aspect of effective club management.
Club Administration
Like any organization, managing a club involves several administrative duties to ensure smooth operations. Basic club administration includes essential tasks such as completing membership forms, collecting dues, and meeting deadlines. Take a look at our checklist to help you build your club’s membership.
