On November 21, 2020, almost 250 of District 57 Club Officers attended the first ever TLI Invitational. On January 16, 2021 another almost 250 of District 57 Club Officers developed, strengthened and grew the leader within by attending the Virtual Toastmasters Leadership Institute. The goal, of course, it to get 100% of our club officers trained. We had a great start and now our focus is on getting the remaining Club Officers to Make Up training in January and February. Both TLIs provided a training that addressed the needs of the district, the concerns of the clubs and provided the opportunity for leaders across the district to learn from and be inspired by each other. Both TLIs provided training not only in Club Officer roles but Lightning talks on Fixing Your Club, Mentoring, Pathways, A Path to Your DTM, as well as other essential information to inspire and lead your club toward excellence. As we always do in Toastmasters, in November 2020 we asked for and got feedback via a participant evaluation on the TLI as a whole and for each segment of the training. The marks and comments were helpful and lead to the design of the January 2021 TLI. Participants told us our brainstorming, thinking outside the box, planning, and organizing paid off and gave us many ideas to help improve our training.

Here are three new ideas that debuted in the November TLI that found their way into the January TLI:
- “Lightning Talks”, a series of short presentations that were intended to ignite ideas and interest that club officers could take back and implement in their clubs. Lightning Talks were a BIG HIT!
- A Whole Team session where we had self-facilitating breakout rooms problem solving and creating solutions to issues clubs are currently facing.
- A TLI Workbook. We learned from participants that we need to get it out earlier and refer to it more often during the training.
We will bring much of the same content and energy into the Division Make Up Trainings. One key difference is that we will be including a ‘back to basics’ element to the Officer Breakout Sessions to ensure our new club officers have the tools and the knowledge they need to carry out their roles. That said, we still count on our experienced leaders to come to TLI. Crowdsourcing wisdom benefits everyone!
The Division Make-Up Trainings will provide splendid training and vast resources to support our club officers and therefore support our clubs.
